Siwa is considered a very traditional society. Both married and unmarried women have limited mobility outside their home without a male companion, though stronger restrictions are placed on married women. When they travel outside their home, Siwan women cover themselves in a distinct garb that is decorated and embroidered in the traditional Siwan style. While these cultural norms are applicable to Siwan women, they do not apply to visitors and tourists in the oasis. The Siwans are well receiving and appreciate the differences that exist between different societies and the cultures.
